Hello, YMCA of the Foothills Family!
Hooray for the 1st day of September! Our family closed out the summer with a wonderful trip to Mammoth Lakes, Lake Tahoe, and the Kings River. Some of the highlights from the trip were spotting a black bear walking through camp on day one, our nightly walks down from our campground to the Camp Richardson Ice Cream Parlor, daily swimming at Baldwin Beach, hiking the Eagle Falls Trail, floating the Truckee River, visiting the cute little town of Kingsburg along the Kings River – and of course – spending nine amazing days with my family doing what we love to do.
September is National Self-Care Awareness Month and is a good time to remind us all how essential the best practice of self-care is. This month, be intentional in your self-care pursuit by being good to yourself or setting aside time to partake in your favorite activity or experience that refills your “wellness” cup. Maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself is vital for our overall well-being. Establish rituals or best practices that feed your mind, body, and spirit. If you need some extra encouragement to get started, our Y team is here to help. You can check in with one of our membership services staff, a healthy living professional, or even our Chaplain to guide you in the right direction for self-care. We have 3 locations and multiple program offerings to help fit your needs.
The YMCA of the Foothills is proud to announce its leadership of the historical YMCA Quarterback Club, now entering its 82nd year. Each Tuesday from August 27 through November 5th, the football community in the foothills, representing five local high schools: La Cañada, Crescenta Valley, Village Christian, Herbert Hoover, and Glendale, along with one college, Glendale Community College, gathers at Oakmont Country Club to fellowship, have lunch and share student-athlete success stories. The QB Club Program is one of a handful of charitable programs at our Y and provides a platform for awareness and much-needed scholarships for deserving student-athletes from our local schools. Membership to the club is only $75 a year. You can find more information on how you can join and the mission of the QB Club at ymcafoothills.org/qbclub
In pursuing self-care, the Y, the La Cañada Unified School District, and the 11 schools up in the valley within Glendale Unified School District have kicked off the Teachers and Staff Wellness Program. This program provides a free adult membership to the YMCA to any teacher, administration, and support staff currently employed by either district within the schools in our service area. We hope this program helps refill their collective wellness cups as they pour their love and care into our children daily.
I wish you all good health and happiness as we welcome you in the fall season.
Onward and Upward!
