Hello from Jalama Beach Campground, just north of Point Conception on the Central Coast. Labor Day Weekend provides an opportunity for our family to spend quality time together camping as summer officially comes to an end. It is a much-needed time to “fill our cups” as we charge into the fall season.
NATIONAL SELF-CARE AWARENESS MONTH
September is National Self-Care Awareness Month and is an excellent time to remind us all how essential the best practice of self-care is. This month, be intentional in your self-care pursuit by being good to yourself or setting aside time to partake in your favorite activity or experience that refills your “wellness” cup. Maintaining a healthy relationship with ourselves is vital for our overall well-being. Take time to establish rituals or best practices that feed your mind, body, and spirit. If you need extra encouragement to get started, our Y team is here to help. Check-in with one of our membership services staff, healthy living professionals, or even our Chaplain to point you in the right direction for self-care. We have 3 locations and multiple program offerings to help fit your needs.
YMCA QUARTERBACK CLUB
YMCA QB Club Kicks Off 82nd Year of Service The YMCA of the Foothills is proud to announce its leadership of the historical YMCA Quarterback Club, now entering its 82nd year. Every Tuesday, since August 22nd, now through November 14th, the football community in the Foothills gathers at Oakmont Country Club for fellowship, have lunch, and share student-athlete success stories. This club represents five local high schools as well as Glendale Community College. The QB Club Program is one of a handful of charitable programs at our Y and provides a platform for awareness and much-needed scholarships to deserving student-athletes from our local schools. Membership to the club is only $75 a year. For more information on how you can join and learn about the QB Club's mission, visit their website by clicking below.
PARTNERSHIP WITH GUSD
On August 16th, our Y and the Glendale Unified School District agreed to expand our Recreational Enrichment Program, serving students at Mountain Ave Elementary School daily from 2-6 pm. This new program is in addition to our YMCA's programs already established at Dunsmore and Monte Vista Elementary Schools. This addition will grow our program, serving 400 students each day! We are grateful for our partnership with GUSD and share the same vision with the district's leadership to positively impact youth through enrichment and socialization.
LCUSD WELLNESS PROGRAM
In the pursuit of self-care, the Y and the La Cañada Unified School District have restarted the Teachers and Staff Wellness Program. This program provides a free adult membership to any teacher, administration, or support staff who is currently employed by the district. We hope this program helps refill their collective wellness cups as they pour their love and care into our children daily.
I wish you all good health and happiness as we welcome you to the fall season. Onward and Upward!
Vince Iuculano
Chief Executive Officer
YMCA of the Foothills
