Happy October, YMCA Family!
The first days of fall are easily my favorite time of the year. Major League Baseball starts the post-season (Go Dodgers!), college football is in full swing (Go Iowa Hawkeyes!), and the weather is just about perfect for us here in Southern California to enjoy a hike, catch up on some gardening, or fit in a last family BBQ.
September was busy for us at the Y as we held our Board of Directors Annual Meeting & Retreat at the beautiful Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. The Board focused on building goals to support our strategic plan: Destination 2025. We asked ourselves the question, “What type of Y do we want to be for our community?”. The Board settled on three major areas of focus: Expanding the Y Mission, Modifying the CCY campus to increase access, and Improving Community Outreach and Support.
I look forward to sharing with you in the coming months our 2024 Impact Report and the final version of the strategic plan.
September is also an exciting time of year for programs and services at our Y as we kick off after-school enrichment programming at GUSD and LCUSD schools. A new academic year starts at our Learning Tree Preschool, welcoming students from 18 months to 5 years old, and our youth sports, e-sports, and adaptive splash programs are in full swing. September is once again the budget season for our Y leadership staff as they begin the process of creating a budget for the 2025 program year that helps to support all the goals of the strategic plan, including continuing to provide a world-class experience for our members and participants at all three locations.
As we start the month of October, I wanted to highlight a few of our amazing programs offerings you and your family could enjoy at our Y:
