MARCH 2025

Writer: Vince IuculanoVince Iuculano

Dear YMCA of the Foothills Family,

February was a month that had our Y focused on support and recovery for the greater foothill communities. On February 2nd, the Y held its first “FOOTHILLS STRONG” Fire Relief Event powered by California Strong, ProActive Sports, and the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. Over 1,200 fire victims attended and were given an opportunity to shop for brand-new essential items like clothing, hygiene products, baby/toddler clothes and formula, bedding, and backpacks. 125 community members also received a check for $1,000 to help with recovery and housing costs.

To date, our Y has given out $130,000 in direct relief support and secured another $119,000 from the Ballmer Group and $40,000 from YMCA members and donors. The additional funds will go to direct fire relief and to provide no-cost membership and programs to our Y members who lost their homes in the Eaton Fire.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, our Staff and my family, I wanted to thank the hundreds of Y volunteers and countless donors for their overwhelming support of our Y and our community in the wake of the Eaton Fire – your compassion and service to those in their time of need will never be forgotten. We love you, and we are so blessed to have your support.

To our members who have suffered unimaginable loss during and after the Eaton Fire, please know that your Y is here for you today; we will be here for you tomorrow, in the coming months, and in the coming years. You have our pledge to walk alongside you and help support you where we can in the recovery process. Your Y loves you, and we are here for you.

As March starts off, we are reminded that this is the time of year to welcome in the Spring Equinox! It is also a wonderful time of year to set wellness goals for yourself. With new cardio and strength equipment at CCY, reimagined group ex classes, USC VHH Doc Talks, and youth development opportunities, we have a variety of options to pursue fiscal, emotional, and social wellness.

Since 1987, the United States has officially recognized March as National Women’s History Month. Over the course of our Y’s now 67 years of existence, women have made and continue to make major contributions in leadership, volunteerism, philanthropic support, and program design, to name a few areas. We celebrate their efforts to make our Y an inclusive and thriving organization that supports community well-being.

Wishing you and your family a healthy and sunny start to spring.

Onward and Upward!
