ABOUT US
OUR CAUSE
Together with your help, we are helping all rise. Thanks to your support we are able to positively impact our Foothills communities in areas of obesity prevention, drowning prevention, arts, STEM programs, balance support for seniors, and chaplain services. Last year we were able to help more than 33,500 members of your community.
YMCA of the Foothills is a 501c3 charity. Activities and participation for all are made possible by the contributions of our donors.
Please consider a contribution to save and change lives today.
OUR MISSION
The mission of the YMCA of the Foothills is to organize, develop, finance, and conduct programs for an association of persons of all ages that will, by putting Christian principles into practice, enrich the quality of their lives spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.
OUR HISTORY
Boldly founded in 1958 by a small group of community leaders, our Y ran its first programs -- summer camp, youth sports, and Y-Guides -- from a small house in La Cañada. By 1962 a larger group of civic leaders secured a piece of property, raised over $600,000, and built what is now the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA facility. From that historic moment, our Y grew to include Northern Glendale, Sunland, Tujunga, and Sun Valley. We built a facility in Tujunga in 1989, our Verdugo Hills Family YMCA, and purchased another in Glendale in 2016, our new Crescenta Valley Family YMCA. Today we provide life-changing programs and activities to more than 40,000 people a year.
